Rehearsals underway for our 40th Anniversary show – Humpty Dumpty

2017 will see the 40th anniversary of the group and we are going to perform the first show the group performed all those years ago – Humpty Dumpty.

John Sorrell directed that show in 1977 and he has taken up the challenge again. We had considered using the original script, but we have opted for a more modern version, which is a traditional panto.

The show will be performed during February half term, 15th – 18th, so put the dates in your diary and come along and support your local community panto.

Due to a family bereavement for one of the principal characters who cannot be present we have cancelled the first night, Wednesday 17th and we will open on Thursday 18th. Concessions are still available for Thursday night’s performance.

The Show’s Underway

Stage is up – oh yes it is!!

It was all hands to the pumps this morning to get the stage up ready for next week’s production of Aladdin.

Next year’s panto announced! It’s Aladdin – oh yes it is!

February next year sees the staging of our 37^th annual community pantomime. This year we are performing a traditional family favourite Aladdin, written by Steve Shaw, a new writer to the group.

The storyline will be familiar to all, with Aladdin who works in his mother, Widow Twankey’s laundry, trying to find wealth so he can marry his love, the Emperor’s daughter, Princess Rosebud. He is of course fooled by the evil Abanazar into finding the lamp but escapes from the cave with the help of the Genie of the Lamp and the Genie of the Ring. Of course it all turns out happily in the end.

Performances will run from Wednesday 19^th to Saturday 22^nd February. So put the dates in your diary. Tickets will go on sale in January.

Stage up!

Today was ‘stage up’ with a difference – a new stage! Thanks to funding from Hanslope Feoffee Estates, a local charitable trust, we have been able to build a new stage to replace our ageing wooden version.

One of our members, Martin Palmer, with the help of a colleague John Goodman designed a modular stage which would be easier to put up and store. We asked local blacksmith Oliver Sawbridge based in Castlethorpe if he would build the stage units for us. He agreed and a few months later the stage units were ready to assemble.

So our production of Old King Cole next week will be the first production to take to our new stage.

Rehearsals going well

The cast of Hanslope Entertainments are busy in rehearsal for their forthcoming production of ‘Old King Cole’. Rehearsing twice a week the group are keen to put on a good show as always.

Old King Cole is set in medieval England, well loosely! The kingdom is broke and mortgaged up to the hilt, much like today! The King needs money to stave off the Anglo Saxon Bank but where to find it – the Golden Tree of Archadia of course in the far off land of the Allans. And so starts a quest over mountains, through forests, over pirate infested seas  – can they get there though before their pursuers?
